Campaign –  International Women’s Day Celebration

Event Details – 8th  March

Event Beneficiaries – NA

Description – From the likes of  Indira Gandhi, Bachendri Pal, Malala Yosafzai, Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle, Kamala Harris, to Greta Thunberg, over the years, women from all walks have recurrently proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. They are believed to be the Yin and rightly so as in collaboration with Yang they bring about order, health, prosperity, and passivity in any structure, whether societal or individual. While each woman in our lives and around us contributes in making each day of our life worthwhile, the 8th day of March every year is observed to celebrate and reciprocate the love, loyalty, commitment, and affection they shower us with.

So, Abhinandan, without fail took up the opportunity to thank some of the many amazing women and congratulate them on their social, economic, cultural, academic, political, and personal achievements. All of these beauties with brains came together to share some moments of fun and light-heartedness with each other.

We felt privileged to share Abhinandan’s work with all our amazing guests. Stalls selling gift hampers and other products curated by the beneficiaries of the NGO were exhibited at the event for sale. Several amazing games and food dishes were like a cherry on the cake. Towards the end of the event, all guests were given sponsored gifts.

This year, at Abhinandan, we wish that women irrespective of their caste, color, religion, gender will be able to prioritize their choices, goals, work, and family without any prejudice.

Campaign –  Menstrual Camp For Sex Workers At Garstin Bastion Road, New Delhi

Event Details –  June, 2021

Event Beneficiaries – 180

The Garstin Bastion Road, New Delhi, notoriously recognized as G.B. road is home for thousands of sex workers. The two-three storey buildings cramming up the busy by lanes of this locality are nothing less than a prison for them. Each sex worker here is literally waging a war against her circumstances while trying to offer a better future to her children or the upcoming generation. The lives of the sex workers are shackled with non-acceptance from the so-called “civilized” cohort of the society. These women associate negatively with menstruation as any discussions about it per se have always been stigmatized in their community.  Perhaps this and the limited means of awareness due to the socio-economic condition of the workers and their young daughters are the reasons that they find it easier to sweep their menstrual needs under the carpet. Their livelihoods are so humble that they consider prioritizing their menstrual hygiene as an indulgence. So much so that these workers could often not afford a single pack of sanitary napkins.

Taking this scenario in account, Abhinandan organized a menstrual camp for 120 women and 50 young girls at G.B. road in June 2021. The women ranging from pubescent to perimenopausal age were educated about the basic life skill of managing menstruation with dignity. In order to ensure health, hygiene, and safety a gynecologist also counseled them about the importance of using sanitary napkins and other sustainable menstrual products that can be re-used following a one-time investment. The workers were also familiarized with the safe method of menstrual product usage as well as waste disposal.

Towards the end, the beneficiaries were handed over with sanitary napkins and refreshments.
